Chapter 2: The Cost

Do you realize how much it would cost to go to Japan?

The sudden silence. All eyes are on me now, waiting.

That’s halfway around the world you know.

“I have the snap Jewelry that I sell at the craft fair, and recycling money too. And we can do some woodwork. We can save up enough money to go; and while we are talking how much did we spend in Florida last year?”

Of course, Mr. financial genius is going to immediately find a plan and justify it with a not so cheap trip we took last year.

“Nenna! My pens. The ones with the Bunnies, and the cats. I put the beads on them and make them pretty. Maybe the pink ones. If I have money, maybe I can get a new stuffie.” Yes, even Nicole has generated a plan that deserves attention.

I can see Ambers mind churning as she adds “I can do some photography shoots, graduations are coming up, maybe advertise some of the work I have done too” Skip vacation this year, put that back and plan for 2028. If I am able to return to work this year, it is possible to make this happen.

Pappy sits and ponders what he is hearing. Japan. He knows it’s on my bucket list. “I think our passports are expired, and where are we planning on flying out from?” Our eyes meet, and I see he is getting on board with the dream. Though he will wait and find out how we plan on making this happen. You know being married for so many years, the eyes tell the stories that the mouth does not.

He also knows he wants to retire someday soon. We are not getting any younger. Still, he gives his input “I wonder what the laws are in Japan about Fishing?”

My bucket list shifts to the front of my mind. Climbing Mt. Fugi to catch the most beautiful sunrise in the world. A lifetime dream. I never thought about it much, as I never could see it becoming a reality. Flights alone run about two grand.

We are making it in this life. But we keep our budget tight in order to afford to do the things we love.

Nature, Culture, and seeing behind the doors of all the world has to offer.

Japan.

Mt. Fugi. Akihabara. The thousand gates of Tottori. Samauri. And we cannot forget Godzilla.

Japan.

Ok guys, here is the deal. I hear silence once again at the table. Lets think about this for a while. See what all you would like to do in Japan if we were to go for say a week, 10 days.

And I will look into some cost planning. No promises, but I will see if it can be possible.

I had no idea that I had just created a Japan committee. I didn’t know.
